Ready, Set, Grill.

Summer is BBQ season, and there’s nothing more exciting for the outdoor chef in the family than a new grill for the backyard. If you’re looking to use your grill more often, branch out from the usual steaks and ribs and take on some new recipes like the ones below. Our wide selection of grills is up for the challenge!

BEYOND THE BASICS

SHRIMP AND SCALLOPS

Shrimp and Scallops are quick and easy to make on the grill. All you’ll need are some wooden skewers (soak in water for 30 mins to avoid burning), a marinade (popular choices are comprised of oil, garlic and lemon) and, of course, butter! Thaw your shrimp and scallops, dab them dry and then toss in the marinade before placing them onto the soaked skewers. Once your grill is up to temperature, safely rub a light amount of oil on your grill to prevent the food from sticking. Grill your seafood skewers for 2-3 minutes each side, while melting some butter in a small cast iron pan on your side burner. Once done, season with salt and pepper and dunk your delicious shrimp and scallops into that melted butter. Yum!

GRILLED PIZZA

Pizza ovens have recently become a popular addition to backyard kitchen setups, with wood fire being the choice method of heat. These pizza ovens operate on high heat and only need a short time to give you that perfect cooked crust.

If you’re not in the market for a pizza oven, try making a pizza in a cast iron pan on your conventional BBQ. Ensure your pan is properly seasoned and get it nice and hot before placing the dough in to create the crisp undercarriage that fired pizzas are known for.

PIES

Yes, you read that correctly, pies! Keep the grill going for dessert and introduce that smoky flavour into a delicious fruit pie. All you need is two foil pans or baking pans and your favourite pie recipe! Preheat your grill and place your pie into one of the foil pans. Once the temperature has reached 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit, place your second foil pan upside down on the grill, and your pie in the first pan on top. This provides some extra buffer between the pie and the flame which allows your pie to cook evenly. Close the lid and in 15-30 minutes (depending on grill temperature) your pie will be ready to go! Be sure to let it rest, and then enjoy with your favourite ice cream.
