A simple refresh in your home can quickly become overwhelming when you’re planning a colour story. Sometimes it seems like the possibilities are endless, yet other times it seems like you can’t anything that works. The good news is, choosing colours and corresponding textures doesn’t have to be difficult, and can actually be fun! Here are a few tips to help you pick something that you’ll love for years.

Consider the Essentials:

What are the main materials in the space? This could be the colour of your flooring, accent walls or additional built-in textures, even carpet.

Fabrics

Start with choosing the fabric that will be on the largest piece of furniture and add accent fabrics accordingly. These could be neutrals that blend into the space or a bold pop of colour you would like to use in the accessories.

Add Another Texture

You may prefer fabric seating over leather or vice versa. However, this doesn't mean you can't add in an accent chair or ottoman in the opposite texture.

Choose Paint Last:

There are millions of options when it comes to paint. No matter what feeling you are trying to create in the space, there will always be a colour that brings it all together. There are less fabrics and accents to choose from so don't hold down your creativity because of a paint colour.

Colour tips:

Warm colours like red, orange and yellow will make a room feel smaller or more cozy, which is helpful if you’re working in a large space. Cool colours like green and light purples recede, drawing the eye across the room; these colours work well in smaller spaces.

Pick up sample containers of the paint samples and paint a square on your wall in each colour. Watch the colours for a few days and find out what you like best with the change in lighting throughout the day.
