Choose a fridge style

• French door refrigerators: two fridge doors on top with a freezer drawer below, giving wide shelves for platters and party trays.
• Side-by-side refrigerators: fridge and freezer next to each other, with narrower doors that need less swing space.
• Top-freezer refrigerators: a classic layout with the freezer on top, often chosen for value and simple use.
• Bottom-freezer refrigerators: fresh food at eye level, with the freezer below.

Fridge sizes and fit

Full-size fridges are usually sold by width, such as 30, 33 or 36 inches, and by capacity in cubic feet. Measure the width, height and depth of your opening, then allow the clearance the manufacturer requires for airflow and door swing. Counter-depth refrigerators sit closer to flush with your cabinets, while standard-depth models offer more interior space. Use the depth filter to compare both.

• Water and ice: check whether a model has an ice maker or dispenser and whether it needs a water line.

What is a counter-depth refrigerator?

A counter-depth refrigerator is shallower than a standard-depth model, so it lines up more closely with your kitchen counters. It usually offers less interior space than a standard-depth fridge of the same width.
