A Letter From Our President, Andrew Tepperman

What is a loveseat?

Ah, the loveseat. Have you ever wondered where the name comes from? At Tepperman's, we've been passionate and curious about all things "home" since 1925, but did you know that the loveseat pre-dates us by centuries?

As a third generation, 97-year-old business, Tepperman’s has lived to see generations of change. As the times change, we must change with them which is why sustainability is one of the pillars that Tepperman’s centers our business on. It is a key part of our Vision 2025 plan.

From the first day that we diverted cardboard bales to Youth Opportunities Unlimited in London, to the installation of EV charging stations at all of our stores, to the planting of our first pollinator garden, to most recently finding a home for many of the plastic film and foam wastes with EFS Plastics in Listowel, we are constantly trying to do our part to save the planet.

Sustainability is not something that we do with a purely inward focus, we want to share the work that we do, we want to tell our story, we want to encourage others to act.

As we approach the 100-year mark, we understand the importance of creating partnerships with like-minded organizations, reducing our footprint, and giving back to our communities that have helped us to strive throughout our history. Last year we donated 12 tonnes of furniture to Habitat for Humanity, recycled 101 tonnes of used mattresses through Recyc-Mattress and added our first solar installation (914 solar panels on the roof of our 70,000 sq. foot Kitchener store).

So, what is next on our sustainability journey? We will continue to get better in how we manage our waste. We will continue to add more products that we sell that have sustainable components to them. This year, we expect to start to see our 30,000 sq foot pollinator garden in London start to bloom. We’ve just published our latest Corporate Social Responsibility report that details many actions that continue to take in order to decrease our environmental impact in the communities that we serve.

Tepperman’s can’t solve the climate crisis alone, but we certainly can do our part and are committed to doing so.

Thank you for your continued support,

Andrew Tepperman
